Currently Canadian Natural operates Wolf Lake Oil Sands Project, Primrose North/South and Primrose East Thermal In Situ operations located approximately 55 km north of Bonnyville in northeastern Alberta. Both cyclic steam stimulation (“CSS”) and steam assisted gravity drainage (“SAGD”) technologies are currently employed to produce approximately 80,000 barrels of oil per day. We have expanded our Primrose and Wolf Lake In Situ Oil Sands operations to more than 120,000 barrels of oil per day. As part of the phased expansion of its in situ oil sands assets, Canadian Natural will continue to develop its Primrose thermal projects.
Our thermal in situ oil sands growth plan is to add 30,000 - 60,000 bbl/d every 2 - 3 years for a target of 300,000 bbl/d thermal production by 2020. The next planned phase of the Company’s in situ oil sands assets expansion is the Kirby Project. Final corporate sanction and project scope is targeted for 2010. Currently the Company is looking to proceed with the detailed engineering and design work. Following Kirby the thermal in situ growth plan has targeted the development of our Grouse, Birch Mountain East, Gregoire and Leismer projects.
